Dinghies

Comet

CometPortsmouth yardstick: 1177

The Comet offers single handed sailing for the older junior and lighter adult. It is suited to the conditions at Aylesbury, being very responsive and easy to handle both on and off the water.

GP14

GP14Class captain: Cedric Futcher
Portsmouth yardstick: 1127

Where other classes have ceased to be popular the GP has remained for over 40 years at Aylesbury. It is raced very competitively as a two man boat with a large overlapping genoa and spinnaker. The GP can also be used as a comfortable cruising boat for pottering on Saturday afternoons.

Handicap

HandicapClass captain: Ron Warner
Portsmouth yardstick: see classes

Permitted classes at Aylesbury Sailing Club other than those given individual class status are British Moth, Byte, Comet Duo, Europe, Firefly, Graduate, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Lightning 368, Miracle, OK, Enterprise, Snipe, Solo, Streaker and Wanderer. These collectively make up the handicap fleet. Handicap race times are corrected by using the Portsmouth Yardstick handicap system to produce the final placings.

Laser

LaserClass captain: Roger Jarvis
Portsmouth yardstick: 1082

The Laser is a very well know single handed boat. It guarantees to bring a smile to the helm when the wind gets up. It demands full concentration when the wind is from the North East (over the trees).

Mirror

MirrorClass captain: Graham Dodd
Portsmouth yardstick: 1385

The Mirror has been with the club for many year. It was seen as the early training boat prior to the arrival of the Topper. However it still has many attractions. It carries two sails and a symmetric spinnaker and races with a crew of two. It is also ideal for those summer holiday on the coast. The second hand price is very affordable.

Topper

TopperClass captain: Dominic Law
Portsmouth yardstick: 1295

Within the club the Topper is considered the junior training boat. It is sailed single handed, although you will often see many small people on one Topper, just for the fun of it. It has its serious side. There is a regular series of races available over the weekends and to date several of our older junior members are competing at national level in Youth squads away from the club.

Junior classes

At the AGM in early March 2005 the membership agreed to introduce four new junior classes, Optimist, Pico, Topas and RS Feva. However until each becomes established it was agreed that the following restrictions be applied...

  • Optimists and training Oppis shall not be permitted to sail during Sunday racing.
  • On Sundays, outside of racing, Optimists and training Oppis may be sailed at the discretion of the OOD.
  • Picos shall only be permitted to race in designated handicap races or within the handicap class.
  • RS Fevas shall only be permitted to sail at the club without the use of a bowsprit or asymmetric spinnaker.
  • Topaz shall mean the Uno Single Sail, Uno Race single handed, Uno plus two with jib and Uno race plus 2 man with Jib. Topaz shall only be permitted to sail at the club without the use of a bowsprit or asymmetric spinnaker.
  • The RS Feva and Topaz shall only be permitted to race in designated handicap races or within the handicap class.
